War Cookies -- Mahabarata. New York University performance of the Mahabarata directed by Maria Pessino, 1988. Each figure is made of two 4-inch dough cut-outs filled with a walnut in the head area, a piece of pineapple in the chest, a mandarin slice and raspberry jam in the stomach area. Each cookie represents a wounded of war, and the entire group was equally divided on either side of a scale from which audience members were asked to choose one cookie as they walked by.
